\u201cInspiration\u201d Lecture by Candace Hassen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inspiration
\nMy program is called \u201cInspiration\u201d. I have 20 large quilts to show. Most are bed sized. I share how I got the idea to make each one; along with the strategies I use throughout my process to stay organized, get things finished, and have fun while doing it. I share why I made the design decisions that I made. I hope to help you see the world around you with fresh eyes, and get inspired by so much more than just other quilts. I love hearing from those who have seen my program; that I inspired them and made them feel like they could do it!<\/p>\n

My Story
\nI love to design and make quilts. Working with color relationships is my favorite thing. I enjoy studying motifs from other cultures to get ideas for my work. I get many design ideas from nature, paintings, and other artistic mediums, as well as vintage quilts, and other textiles. I prefer making quilts that contain many fabrics; because I believe that this gives the viewer a much more interesting and pleasing quilt to look at. It also makes the quilt much more versatile; and will help to add a beautiful focal point, or unique accent piece to a wider variety of rooms.<\/p>\n

I have a bachelor\u2019s degree in art; and have been weaving for 35 years; both of which I believe, have had a big influence in the way I use color and pattern in my quilt designs. My quilts have been published in McCall\u2019s quilting magazine, and have won numerous awards in local quilt shows and fairs. I have self-published patterns for many of my quilts.<\/p>\n

Dear Gwinnett Quilters\u2019 Guild Family,<\/p>\n

One of the responsibilities of your Board is to look ahead and help ensure that our guild remains
\nstrong for years to come. Recently, we’ve spent time reviewing our budget, discussing upcoming
\nactivities, and considering how best to support the programs and opportunities our members
\nenjoy.
\nAs you’ll see in the Treasurer’s Report, our current projections indicate a budget shortfall. While
\nno one enjoys talking about deficits, your Board has carefully reviewed the situation and adopted
\na balanced plan to address it. Our approach includes drawing mindfully on our reserves,
\ncontinuing to strengthen revenue through workshops and member-led activities, and exploring
\ncreative fundraising opportunities that support our mission while bringing us together.
\nPlanning for the future isn’t always as exciting as choosing fabrics or starting a new project, but
\nit is an important part of keeping our guild healthy and thriving. Every decision is made with
\ncare and deep appreciation for the creativity, fellowship, and community that make our guild so
\nspecial.
\nWe\u2019re excited to share a few creative fundraising ideas in the coming months, including a Gwinnett Quilters\u2019 Guild calendar idea that will feature some members and their beautiful quilts. We hope you\u2019ll join us to learn more about these plans and the opportunities ahead.
\nThank you for being part of this wonderful guild. Together, we’re creating not only beautiful quilts, but a bright future for our guild as well. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Guild meeting on Tuesday, June 16 at the Youth Fellowship Hall, 2nd Floor.<\/p>\n
